So its upon us again, Vancouver Fashion Week. As always this city is buzzing with excitement and so am I. Not only will I be spectating the dazzling designs coming down the runway but I will be keeping all of you up to speed here on the blog. One designer I’ll be jumping out of my seat to see is Evan Clayton. This Autumn/Winter 2014 runway show will be Evan’s one year anniversary since he first debuted his designs last season. I wonder what he will have in store for us this time around?
For those of you just catching up, Evan Clayton is a local Vancouver designer who made a dramatic entrance to the scene. If you’re looking for sweet and innocent designs, these clothes are not for you. Evan dances with the dark side of fashion and brings out feminist strength in his designs. To call his garments mere pieces of clothing would be a major understatement, he takes an idea or an emotion and conveys it through what I would call, moving art. This year’s Autumn/Winter show is called “JENOVA” and expresses Western culture through the eyes of Eastern vision. He pulled sources of inspiration from artist Yoshitaka Amano and Final Fantasy VII. His designs will be expressing the juxtaposition of these two views as wells as the unity in their differences. This show will be beautifully dark and anything but mundane, the perfect combo between fashion and art.
Come with me on Thursday night, March 20th to view Evan Clayton’s runway show. Doors open at 4:30 at the Chinese Cultural Centre (50 East Pender St, Vancouver). Tickets available here at Vanfashionweek.com.
